About the speakers
Dr. Christian Ehler
EP
Member of the European Parliament

Christian Ehler is a Member of the European Parliament (EP) since 2004. He was born on 17 August 1963 in Munich. He holds a degree in journalism and economics from the Ludwig-Maximilian University in Munich (1991) as well as a PhD of political science on the topic of U.S. trade policy (1993). Until 2010 Ehler held the post of Managing Director of Biotech GmbH - a biotechnology centre in Hennigsdorf, Germany.
In the European Parliament Christian Ehler is a member and EPP coordinator of the Committee on Industry, Research and Energy and a substitute member of the Committee on Culture.
In 2014 Christian Ehler MEP (EPP) and Pervenche Berès MEP (S&D) founded the Intergroup “Cultural and Creative Industries in Europe”. By establishing the Intergroup in the European Parliament, an open and transparent forum has been created to fuel the much-needed debate on how to ensure a thriving creative economy for the generations to come.
Furthermore, he has been rapporteur of the joint report by the Industry and Culture Committee of the European Parliament entitled “A coherent EU policy for the cultural and creative industries in Europe”. Currently he is the EPP rapporteur on the Horizon Europe Programme.

Christoph Bläsi (born 1960): professor for book studies at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz, Germany (since 2009); 2014: Royal Society of Edinburgh research fellow at Edinburgh Napier University, UK, 2011-2014: guest professor at the University of St Gallen, CH; 2004-2009: professor for the study of the book at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg, D; 1992-2004: senior positions in digital publishing and strategic information management of various major German publishing houses; 1989-1992: assistant professor / research fellow (computational linguistics) at the universities of Heidelberg, D, and Bielefeld, D; 1991: guest research fellow at the University of Pisa, I; 1982-1989: mathematics, German studies, general linguistics as well as computational linguistics at the universities of Freiburg, D, and Sussex (Brighton, UK).
Christoph Bläsi´s current research areas include artificial intelligence applications in publishing, (particularly economic aspects of) educational publishing as well as cookbooks; with respect to ´text-based cooking media´, his research focuses on the integration and preservation of the results of culinary transfers (caused e.g. by migration or holiday experiences) in German-language media from cookbooks to food blogs from 1950 to the present, combining cultural studies approaches with ´distant reading´ ones from digital humanities / computational philology.
